1 May 2008

Hi everyone,

I hope April has been good to you.  I know for those of you who live in Western Canada have seen more snow during April.  Well, I hope we will be seeing more flowers in May and will enjoy great weather!

Just to let you know, my mom had eye surgery (known as a vitrectomy) in mid-April.  She's doing very well!  A week after her surgery, she was reading the eye chart and quite pleased that she could see.  She's still seeing quite well and is out there driving.  Technology and great doctors are awesome!

As I have mentioned to many of you, when I had laser eye surgery done several years ago, I called it a miracle.  I would say, "I was blind but now I see."  My eyesight was extremely poor and although statistically, at the time, I might still need glasses for driving, it did not turn out that way!  I had normal vision and could drive, read and do everything without glasses.  If you would like to read more about my experience, check out Volume 1, Supplemental, of KaTsZoNe which came out on December 11, 2004  at   http://www.katszone.com/articles/article/2707847/97898.htm.

By the way, I finally saved all the issues of KaTsZoNe on my website!  Although I could not transfer the formatting from Word of those earlier issues, I think you will agree that the text is more important!  So, those of you who were not there at the beginning, you can now go back to the very beginning of KaTsZoNe.  See the directory at http://www.katszone.com/newsletter.html.

And, I have a confession.  I have not stuck to the NO WHEAT, NO CAFFEINE, NO DAIRY in my diet for probably over a year now.  Although I am still trying not eat as much of it compared to before, let's just say that I'm not trying that hard these days.  For the past couple weeks, I've been craving for a Coke -- at least three times!  The lady at the hot dog stand seemed to know me before she actually knew me -- oh, those Italian and Polish sausages -- yummy!!!  I found myself eating sandwiches, cakes and cookies at those festive office parties, instead of just sticking to veggies and fruit.  Starbucks is my daily stop -- no wonder their stocks keep falling! (Been telling my friends that if  I go to Starbucks too frequently, their stocks keep falling.  Yes, it's MY FAULT!)  So, to what shall I lay the blame of me completely falling off the wagon?  Soy!  Yes, friends, I think soy is my downfall.  Because I tried to stay away from milk, I ended up replacing it with soy.  And, I have to add soy to something -- to black teas and coffee (which have caffeine), of course.  And, what goes great with tea and coffee -- cake and cookies!  Sigh...sigh...sigh....

Think I need some nicer diversions.  So, I'm looking forward to the summer and hopefully, I will not be indulging myself in more activities instead of constantly thinking about what I CANNOT EAT!

Finally, I would like to extend my best wishes to several friends who may be reading this.  There are many changes in life.  And, this month (and in coming months), some of my friends got new jobs, three of you are getting married, one had a baby and another will have a baby soon!  How exciting!  I am overwhelmed by all the good news this year and if you will be going through all of the above which I have mentioned -- oh my gosh, who are you?  Tell me!  That would just be CRAZY!  LOL.

It's been a blast updating you guys, as always.  Would be amazing to hear from you.  Keep in touch.

Cheers,

Katherine (KK/Kat)
