Hi everyone,

This month, I wanted to focus on an important body part -- you know those things at the end of your legs?  That's right -- FEET!

I have really enjoyed walking outside during good weather, especially after the cold, winter months.  This past week, the more I walked, the more energy I seemed to have.  So, I thought it might be amusing to just rant and rave about FEET!  Let's give it up everyone....WOOHOO....HOORAY.....GIVE A STANDING OVATION FOR FEET!!!

How many of you remember Dr. Seuss' book, "The Foot Book"?  I remember reading this book with a friend's daughter many years ago.  Wish I picked up my own copy -- lol.  At the time, I did not realize how important our feet are.  What I mean is, I think I took my feet for granted.

So, how important are your feet and what would happen if you did not have them?  What is the impact of not having "normal" feet?

Based on personal experience, I can tell you how excruciatingly painful it is when you don't treat your feet well.  I, for one, have flat feet.  Without proper orthotics, my feet would kill!  I was accustomed to wearing flat shoes and that is a "no no" if you have flat feet.  Without a proper arch in my feet, I was slouching quite a bit.  And, I did not even realize that I was limping.  I did not have good balance, for example, on skates.  So, when I was fitted with orthotics, wow, what a difference in life!  I could walk 5 to 10 kms if I wanted to (believe me, I have).  I could stand up tall and walk with confidence!

Now that I know how important it is to be good to my feet, my new motto is, "I can't afford to buy cheap shoes."  I used to envy people who could pick up shoes for cheap -- casual and running shoes.  My mum would tell me that I had expensive tastes - lol.  My response to her would be, if I wasn't born with flat feet, I would not have to get the best shoes!  Guess I can't quit my day job just yet.

When it comes to shoes, I also say, "My feet are made in China (Asia)".  I wish I can wear Italian and Brazilian shoes - I love the styles.  Oh well, this is me!

If you want to see my heart race faster and get all excited about shoes, just mention the words, "Naturalizer" or "New Balance" and then the word SALE!!!  My gosh, I do believe there is a New Balance Warehouse Sale at the International Centre (Brampton) next week (see websites below)!!!

Have you seen the price of gas?  You may want to consider less expensive transportation or use your good buddy, your feet!  Walking is considered one of the healthiest and safest exercises.  Not only is is great, affordable exercise, I feel that we are able to see things we often miss when we are in the car or on the bus.  It is a great opportunity to explore and become more aware of the community we are in.  You might even learn to enjoy the sights and sounds -- something you could take for granted.  Whenever I am visiting a city/town I have never been to, I like to walk and experience it on solid ground - or sometimes, not so solid ground - that's another story.

Starting next weekend (June 6 to 15), Luminato begins its run in Toronto.  It is an arts event but in particular, I thought I would tell you another great thing you can do with your feet -- DANCE!  Dundas Square (corner of Yonge and Dundas) will turn into a dance hall.  Each evening, you can go and learn some dances, for free.  The event is called "TELUS Light On Your Feet".  You can learn Swing, Latin, Tango, Disco and even Bollywood dancing.  On Saturday, June 7th, enjoy Scottish music and dancing with some great Canadian Scottish musicians!  If any of you are interested, let me know.  I love Swing, so, hope I can be there next Friday.  I love Scottish music too so maybe i can persuade my mum to go with me, since she has just heard about upcoming events at Dundas Square.  Maybe I will drop by and visit a nice lady there again - she actually remembered me from months ago when I bought a couple colourful, hand-knitted hats from her at the lounge at my office building several a few blocks from Dundas Square.

Hope you will check out more Luminato events at there website - www.luminato.com.

Well, I'm getting a bit tired now.  Time for a nice foot rub with L'Occitane's foot cream made with shea butter, arnica and essential lavender oil.  And by the way, my feet made be made in China (Asia), but, I don't mind being pampered with foot cream made in France.  And, if that's not enough, a pedicure -- oh yeah!  There's a great nail kit made by "Obey Your Body" which has lotion that is made from minerals from The Dead Sea.  Your manicure and pedicure will look so professional!

I am certainly not an expert on feet but have had feet issues for years.  As the summer rolls in, I hope you will make good use of your feet, pamper them and they will love it!

Talk to you soon,

Katherine (KK/Kat)
