Hi everyone,

Did you all miss something in May -- like the May episode of KaTsZoNe?  Well, I didn't write one!  Besides my late night online addiction to Sudoku, I just gave up once I passed the middle of the month.  Think I just needed a break .... okay, break time is OVER!

On May 21st, Larry and I went to see "Unwigged and Unplugged" at Massey Hall.  It was a very tame version of three beloved musicians from the classic movie, "This is Spinal Tap".  I loved the movie and we thought it would be fun to see them on the 25th anniversary of a hilarious spoof about rock stars, Spinal Tap, in their quest to make a comeback and of course, the bumps along that way.  "Unwigged and Unplugged" is more "folksy" than "rock" - very laid back.  Let's just say, no earplugs are required - LOL.  I really enjoyed the humour of Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer in the movie, and they still got it!  The audience welcomed them with open arms and it felt like we were sitting in a lounge with our three friends, as they sang, told stories and jokes.  I really enjoyed the evening.  It was also my first visit to Massey Hall, so, I had a nice visit to the basement, climbing over, under and around people who were jumping for the Spinal Tap "merch" and I'm sure II did the right thing by getting Larry to do all the dirty work to get me a funky black "Spinal Tap" bag with glowing green letters, while I raced for the washroom before the show started.  Nice work, huh?  When we went back to our seats, we noticed that people could bring drinks up to their seats, which they bought from the bar downstairs, so, it almost felt like we were at a club.  During the show, there was an opportunity for the audience to ask performers questions.  The show definitely had an intimate feel.  I really liked Massey Hall and would love to see more shows there.  The Air Canada Centre (ACC) drives me nuts -- it is not the best place for concerts.  Performers look like peanuts (unless you can get seats on the floors) and the sound can be like ping pong balls bouncing all over the place!  Good job Mr. Hart Massey!  Perhaps, one day, I'll do a more historical episode of KaTsZoNe so that you can get better acquainted with people who contributed to Toronto's rich history.

Last weekend, I went to see the movie, "Terminator Salvation".  I am not going to suggest that you all to race out and see the movie, even though science fiction and tons of special effects can be thrilling.  But, if you have nothing to do on a weekend and like to eat nachos and movie popcorn, go see it.  We got to the theatre just ten minutes before it started, on the first weekend the movie is released, so, we had to sit very close to the screen (NOTE:  Never do that again!).  Anyway, I thought this movie may make me jump a few times, but, it did only once.  Sitting so close to the screen, I thought my heart would be pumping a lot more, but, it didn't seem to be as exciting and suspenseful as I had anticipated.  Not sure if I just didn't like the way it was written or perhaps, I didn't connect with the characters.  If you do want to catch this fourth instalment of the Terminator series, then, watch it on the big screen because your heart may stop pumping when it's on dvd!

Do you want to know what did get my heart pumping?  This year's Indianapolis 500 (aka Indy 500)!  You may wonder, what's so exciting about cars racing 500 miles (200 laps) on a circular track?  When I watched the Indy 500 as a teenager, I also wondered what could be so exciting about cars racing round and round, and yet, I was glued!  I still remember that first race I saw on tv, where names like Unser and Andretti are still with me to this day - sometimes, a bit confusing because they have relatives with the same surnames who also race.  When I was a teen, Mario Andretti was the prominent driver I knew.  Today, if you hear the Andretti name on the news, especially in Toronto, it is Michael Andretti, Mario's son, who co-owns Andretti Green, and they operate the Honda Indy Toronto event this year from July 10 to 12 -- which, by the way, I would love to attend but have not bought tickets yet -- soon!  If you would like to read about my Toronto Grand Prix 2007 experience, check out http://www.katszone.com/grandprixtoronto_07.html

And now, back to the Indy 500 - I had not seen it for years and then started watching it again last year.  So much can happen during the race as over 30 cars vie to take the winning prize.  This year, as in previous years, cars run into problems as they lose control on the rough surface on the track and smash into walls.  Passing other cars is also not as easy as you may think.  And, this year, one car caught on fire in the pit as it took off prematurely.  Two drivers had to be taken to the hospital after they smashed into each other.  In the end, a very emotional Brazilian auto racer, Helio Castroneves, won his third Indy 500, earning him just over $3 million this year.  His win was called a "Hollywood" story because he had just gone through a very difficult ordeal, being tried for tax evasion, for which he could have received jail time and the end of his racing career.  However, on April 17 (just a month before the Indy race), he was acquitted on all six counts of tax evasion and prosecutors dropped the conspiracy charge against him on May 22nd, just two days before the Indy race!  Castroneves' win is indeed a happy "Hollywood ending" - wonder if moviemakers will pick up on that!  If you are a fan of "Dancing With The Stars", you may recall Castroneves won the dance competition in 2007.  Talk about talent!

And...and...and...I think I'm going to CRASH now!  Don't worry, it's not a fatal.  LOL.

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for the next episode of KaTsZoNe!  Never a dull moment...

Get ready for summer!  Yeah!!!

Take care,
Katherine
