KaTsZoNe Newsletters > KaTsZoNe - Issue 37 - Happy New Year!

1 Jan 2008

Hi everyone,

Hope you are all starting 2008 on the right foot - perhaps at a party with family and friends, celebrating at Nathan Phillips Square, cuddling with your honey or simply enjoying a quiet evening at home.

So, what do you like to think about or do at the start of a new year?

Some people like to make goals or resolutions.  Whether they keep it or not throughout the year, it seems to be a ritual to make New Year's resolutions.  On New Year's Eve, while watching the evening news on t.v., I heard people speak some of their resolutions and the common ones include, exercising more, dieting and to quit smoking.  I have not heard people say that they resolve to shop less, not spend so much time on Facebook, cut down on Starbucks, and to sleep more -- hmm...I think those sound an awful lot like my resolutions!

A couple weeks ago when I started to write this month's KaTsZoNe, I was comparing it to last year when I was sick and had lost my voice.  But, today, given recent world events, particularly in Pakistan and Kenya, I had more to think about than just my health compared to last year.

We easily overlook people and events in peaceful times.  When things become shaken up and violent, that's when I say to myself, and perhaps you will also say, first of all, I am blessed to be living in Canada.  I have not always lived in Canada.  Some of you, my friends, do not live in North America.  Political stability is something we may take for granted.  And, if you have a passion or the resolve to make changes for the better in the political realm, I encourage you to take action.  And, even if you do not take political action, as we enter 2008, I would like to encourage you to pray for the leaders and people who live in both politically stable and unstable nations - yes, praying for the whole world.

Do you all remember John Lennon's song, Imagine?  Nothing happens overnight.  Lennon recorded the album, Imagine, in 1971.  Hopes for peace continue until today and shall continue on.

I mention the song, Imagine, for another reason.  I see music as another way of making a difference in the world.  For those who write music, play music and love music, lives can change and people can be inspired and effected in a great way by songs.  I look forward to sharing more music experiences with you in the coming year.  Feel free to share with me, as well, if you hear pick up a great CD, attend some concerts or meet some great musicians!

I'm glad I have had another fantastic year writing episodes of KaTsZoNe.  You all know how I love to talk, so, this way, I just have to write a lot to about 50 of you now, all at once!  I still love writing this newsletter and hope you will continue to enjoy reading my monthly episodes.

I wish you all a very happy, healthy and prosperous 2008!  May you experience much love, greater peace, deeper joy and achieve success in your endeavours.  And, if you like chocolate, I hope you will have the opportunity to try Leonidas in the new year -- okay, I just had to put that in because there's always room for more love (of chocolate) in your life, especially if it makes you sweeter!

Have a sweet year!
